WELL HELLO

Howdy Campers. Bloming Nora....I cannot believe it has been 11 months since we last blogged. that is...quite honestly, defying the whole point of blogging n'est pas. A disgrace to the era of written communication. Full apologies. So I'm presuming everying survived the winter months ok? (actually, that is probably why we havn't blogged for such a long time..we were busy fixing all the skiing injuries and stiff snow-caused necks. Looking forward to all the gardening strains now. Yes it's a bizarre place inside the head of an osteopath. Come on, get your knees and ankles out! And of course those good ol' low backs..they just LOVE gardening! If anyone is missing the friendly faces and incessant chatter of the Soothe team, either do a bit of gardening to give yourself a reason to come and visit, OR.....AND THIS IS MUCH MORE PREFERABLE....come in to see us for an M.O.T...we gain alot of joy from KEEPING BACK/ NECK/ KNEE/ SHOULDER problems AWAY in the first place!!

I get a lot of tingling in my legs and am very worried. What if anything can be done for me as an alternative to surgery? I'm due in theatre for a slipped disc in a few weeks and wonder if any osteopath can help with this condition?

Hi there,

Surgeons are not quick to offer surgery for a disc bulge. If you are being offered this, then it is probably because you really need it. By the time you have prolonged pins and needles, you have prolonged nerve compression and an operation will avoid or at least minimize permenant nerve damage.

Every disc injury is different, so you cannot give blanket advice for them. But I know a surgeon will not offer you surgery unless it is really the neccessary....it would be too expensive!

As osteopaths we can help you before a disc reaches the stage of requiring surgery, or after you have recovered from surgery to help you get your back strong and try to prevent another disc injury.
It is very important that you start core stabilising exercises once you are cleared to start re-hab exercises.

Cranial osteopathy will help your body unwind and recover from the operation. This is an important part of recovery in my opinion.

I hope helps, even though I know its probably not the answer you were hoping for.

Good luck.

Thank you! I work in a care home lifting the elderly residents has caused the problem with my back and I fear at 52 I'm getting too old myself. I'm off work waiting for the operation but will make an appointment as soon as I am able. Thanks again for taking the time to write me a such a kind reply.
